Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate Test
Test Details
A Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) test evaluates kidney function. The kidney consists of tiny filters called glomeruli that remove waste materials from the blood. The Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) test is an assessment of how well this filtration process is working. There are several methods to test GFR. Most often, the glomerular filtration rate is estimated by analyzing another substance. There are many estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) tests that use a formula based on the levels of creatinine, a waste product produced by the body's muscles, in the blood.
